Dumbarton Castle

Taking advantage of the rare and beautiful blue skies, we decided to check out a nearby castle.  This is a place we noticed on the way to Lyle Hill, along the River Clyde. It's been under construction for awhile, but recent reviews show it has finally reopened.

The whole thing was built on the Rock of the Clyde, a 335 million year old volcanic rock perched on the coast, overlooking the river with a clear view of the surrounding city.  It was once a great fortress with guns and cannons, now just for looks. The layout of everything was very dynamic, with plenty of stairs.

Stairs up and over and up some more.  Steep and narrow as always, but the views pay off, especially on a day like this.

On the way home, Pedro showed me a waterfall he had discovered previously, on River Calder.  It's a beautiful little crescent shaped waterfall, doesn't even show on Google maps, with a small worn path where people have gone down from the street to look at it. We got there just as the sun was setting, so we at least got to see some sun rays shining through.
