We have a visitor
Tomorrow we will be hosting for the first time! Pedro's brother Luis is currently on the way to Scotland. I had hoped he would get to experience the colder weather, but the summer here is still very nice, We've only had one big heat wave just after we returned from Italy.
Being from the tropics, we figured it's nothing we hadn't been through before. In fact, I thought the articles warning about the 30℃ heat (86℉) were being a bit dramatic. I was wrong. While moving our fan around from room to room according to where we were, debating the whole time about airflow versus shielding out the sunlight, sweating the whole time...I realized the our home was not made for this. I'm sure most other homes/buildings are in the same boat which is why they've given warnings about indoors and out. I see now that, #1 the houses here were built to keep in heat, not vent it out, #2 most houses are stacked with heaters, not A/C. And #3, people here aren't really aren't used to it.
Side note: Amber alerts here are not the same as in America. I was receiving several on my phone, but every time I viewed it, it only presented names of the areas around Glasgow. No age, clothing, last seen locations or any information like that. It was very frustrating until I read that Amber alerts here are for weather. They are issued for locations where the weather is suspected to be severe enough that people need to consider changing their plans. (The warnings increase from yellow to amber to red.)
Luckily we haven't received any amber alerts for this week, we'll get some warm weather for the first few days Luis is here (it won't go above 27℃/80℉ even at the height), but it'll cool later in the day and by end of the week. Plus we get plenty of breezes. Currently, it's been that nice in-between weather, where it's not hot or cold, with cool evenings. Either way, I'm guessing it's going to be a cool off for Luis whose been surviving a Floridian summer.
We've already discussed tours with him and I've mapped out our favorite spots in Glasgow and Edinburgh. We're guessing he's going to be tired after traveling, so tomorrow will probably be an easy chill day, but the rest of the week is fun-filled!
P.S. Everyone else's gardens are looking fabulous. Our little cul-de-sac is constantly blooming with the season's variety of flowers. I on the other hand, have a flower blooming. A. Single. Flower. Out of ten gladiolus, only one has been spared by caterpillars and was in the prime spot for sunlight. Oh well, my lawn décor is year-round.
