The Nightmare Continues
Pretty sure you can tell from my previous posts that I like to meticulously plan things. And this is something I just could not plan for.
Pedro's conference has now been officially cancelled. But we still want to go to London to visit with A and continue our trip to Italy. Yet this strike has continued to complicated things. Our train journey from Anniesland to London was disrupted due to the strike, so we had to call and get refunds. After talking with the Scotrail rep, we started to pitch alternate journeys. Maybe cancelling London altogether and flying from Glasgow to Rome? Or Flying from Glasgow to London instead of taking the train? But the logistics of everything was still just a nightmare and we've already booked our flights. So we rebooked our train to London, which cost an extra ££. And even this is not a guaranteed journey, as the railway timetables change. So hopefully this one isn't cancelled and we have scramble to find another one.
Another issue was getting to the airport. We arrive (hopefully) in London the day before the first strikes, but our flight is on the second day of strikes, so trains are absolutely out of question. And I've learned through googling and various bus companies that the UK has a very strong railway infrastructure...so why have easy alternatives? Getting to the airport via bus was not a direct option, so we had to grudgingly opt for an airport taxi (cue wallet cringe).
I planned this trip down to the hours, and now it's a messy uncertainty. I meant for it to be a fun bonus, not an extra headache. Sorry Pedro, I hope it'll all be worth it.
P: Imagine if we had booked a non-refundable hotel in London that conference can't pay for now.
S: True.
