Planning Our Next Great Adventure

Today we planned a trip to Rome.  Pedro had said he wanted to take me to Italy this summer, but I wasn't sure we'd be able to plan everything so fast.  I would randomly search flights and tours, not sure how or when we'd travel, but this morning it hit me. I'm not sure how long I was awake, but when Pedro woke up, I had it all figured out. It went something like this:

S: oh you're awake!

P: Morning..

S: So...I kind of planned a whole trip to Rome leaving from your London conference in June.

P: ...Reeeally... Well, let's go to Beefcake Cafe and you can show me what ya got over breakfast!

And that's pretty much how we spent the day. We planned out days in London, leaving London for Rome, tours of the city and the Vatican, and coming back home. We went back and forth on airlines and times, but I think we finally figured out a satisfactory bang-for-our-buck itinerary.

One thing we learned during all this, a 3 night stay in London is more than twice the money for 4 nights in the heart of Rome.  More than a flight to Italy. More than 2 train tickets to across the UK. Lesson here: London is crazy expensive!! (Thank you, thank you, thank you, Pedro, for choosing Glasgow!)  All we want is a (semi) nice hotel with our own bathroom, but London wants half our Rome budget!

We had bought our train tickets to London (but hadn't signed our souls over to any hotels) when Pedro reached out to our mutual friend living in London. We wanted to meet up if possible while we are there and tour the city together.  A's actually a friend from The States who used to work at the same animal hospital as Pedro. We would get together for Halloween parties and bar crawls, and all kinds of fun back in the Florida.  A went to vet school a year before Pedro, and told us to hit her up if we're ever in London. So when Pedro mentioned we'd be in the area for his conference, she offered her place if we didn't mind the commute. We figured out that the commute from her place to the city everyday was still waaaaaay cheaper than a hotel. So thank you A!! Glad to be staying with a friend.
