When in doubt, ask a local

When using public transportation, I always aim for really early rather than really late.  Getting the booster appointment had been easy enough, but I didn't want to have to reschedule either.  Following the suggestion from the woman at NHS, I looked up the 6a bus route and found that it ran every 12 minutes. If I miss one, I could catch another with plenty of time. So I set out an hour before my appointment time and found the bus stop easily.  It was even a fancy city route with a board for arrivals, which said I had 3 minutes to spare.  I bought a round trip ticket on my bus app and watched for it down the road.  I watched it approach, I stepped out, and then watched as it passed me. I waved at the driver, and he waved back. Crap.

Getting a Boost

Most of our adventures have avoided any extra risk for Covid.  We've been able to explore outside or in small groups for a short period of time and we always have our masks on. Avoiding obvious exposure risks, I think we've been pretty good as far as not choosing populated cities to visit or going to parties (especially with eating or drinking).  But choosing not to go to this event really bummed me out.  It's the annual Vet Ball, event of the season, the one fun event of the year for guests like me!  It's even on the weekend of our 10-year dating anniversary, which would be icing on the cake to get all glammed up to celebrate.  When I first read (over Pedro's shoulder) that the school was providing "kilt measurements" soon, I practically squealed. Kilts! Fancy kilts and dresses! We haven't been to any kind of event like this since high school (wedding doesn't count).

The Highlands - Day 3

This morning looked a lot more promising, even the clouds cleared up so that we could see the distant mountains in the harbor. We got one last look at the town square before setting off.

Isle of Skye - Day 2

The storm that raged all night was the stuff of nightmares, and even gave me nightmares.  The wind noise alone was terrifying.  We knew the weather would be bad, knowing that we were going during the winter meant rain and snow.  But I was not expecting the incredible gusts coming through the harbor.  I would not want to be asleep on one of those sailboats...

The Highland Adventure - Day 1

When Pedro and I first started internet exploring parts of Scotland, places that we might want to visit, the Isle of Skye was always at the top of the list. Since we don't have a car and there aren't trains or flights to the island, we decided on a bus tour.  This turned out to be the best way to see some of the Highlands on the way there and back as well.  It was a three day trip, starting in Glasgow, stopping at sights along the way up to Skye, then a drive around the isle, ending with stops on the way back down.  The first bus that picked us up was actually a whisky tour that was set to bring us to the first point on the Skye tour.
