Separate Adventures - Day 5

Seems like there was good news and bad news today.  We're choosing to focus on the good since we really want to find the light at the end of the tunnel.

This morning Pedro went down to the lobby to see if he could extend his stay.  No problem, but it costs over twice as much than his first week.  Apparently next weekend is the TRSMT festival, which just so happens to be Scotland's largest music festival.  All the hotels in the area are booked and their prices raised.  His hotel was still the cheapest since he's just on the outskirts of the city center, near the school.  He had to put £674 on his credit card, which is about $933.  It sucks, but he has to conserve his cash, and to stay at his current hotel is really the best option.

Anyway, he walked all the way to his first ever apartment viewing.  It was a nice place, but it's the farthest out we've seen (4 miles from his school), and it's a bit pricey, but it's available now. We also learned something new.  We knew in Scotland they have 'council tax' which is something you must pay along with your rent.  Full-time UK students are exempt from this, I however am not.  So even though we're living together, I have to pay this tax.  The bright side though, water is included in this tax.  The realtor said it's like this for all properties, and there's no shortage of water.  So that's something. The realtor also told us having cash and paying the deposit along with 6 months of rent up front is a major bonus, and we should lead with that.  Since that's our only option, in a country where we have no guarantor and no credit history, yeah, that's our intro dude!  (Still good to know we're being seen in a pleasant light)

Pedro said Glasgow is a bit like Chicago in regard to weather.  Near the city center it's very windy, which he loved since it meant it was colder.  He did enjoy the scenery too and shared some pictures along the way.

S: Well that's the cutest thing.  I thought you were in Glasgow, not Japan.

S: Oh, back in Scotland.
