Separate Adventures - Day 3

Pedro slept for 11 hours.  I got a message at 2am my time, "48 degrees outside with a high of 72.  Let's do it!"

So. Jealous.  When I woke up at 8am, it was already 88 with a real feel of 97.

Weather aside, Day 3 has been rough.  We started a zoom call because it seemed to work the best with a video.  He told me about the 30+ calls he's made today for apartments, with not one of them being successful. We looked online together with our screens shared, him calling the letting agency for anything we found. Here's an example of the conversation.

P: Hi I am calling to see if the property at [blank] posted today was still available?

Letting Agent: You'll have send us an email through the property site and we will get back to you.

P: Ok, I will, though I am not sure my emails are getting through.

Letting Agent: Ah, yeah sorry we are receiving emails, but we've been getting so many emails we can't get back to everyone. We've had 42 inquiries on that property posted just today.

P: oh, I understand. Thank you.

42! It was only 2:30p in Glasgow, that property was just added today!  The city is experiencing a shortage on places to live like nothing else.  And it is not the normal 'school is starting, so everyone needs an apartment' shortage.  Agencies were saying the same thing, this is odd even for the season.  The process to apply also makes it difficult. You have to view the apartment in order to put in an offer.  An agent told Pedro that because of COVID, this process makes it really hard.  Before the pandemic, they could hold one or two viewings and have as many people show up as they like. Now it's individual viewings, one person at a time. So bookings are filled up instantly and you cannot inquire about the property after that.  Pedro contacted the school about 'family accommodations' as a back up plan, but there are limited spots and no guarantees. Did I mention we need an address to set up all of our basic needs? A bank account, registration with the school and local police, LAUNDRY...

It's fine. We're fine. Everything's fine.

Ending on a pleasant note, Pedro says the university is basically Hogwarts and I am going to geek out when I see it. Accurate.
